This shows some of the main elements used in designing the Forms for Khemeia, a new team-based game myself and my colleagues (Team Norwegian Blue) are designing that involves Fullmetal Alchemist-esque magic.
The top set shows the 5 elements common to many kinds of Alchemy. On top of the normal 4, Aether represents everything intangible and heavenly, such as life and the stars.
The bottom shows Paracelsus' Three Primes, or Tria Prima. Sulphur represents fire, vigorousness and life, Mercury represents fluidity, stability and metals, and Salt represents solidity and mundane matter. For example when wood burns, the flames are the Sulphur, the smoke is the Mercury and the ash is the Salt.

I should probably add that all these, and indeed all the forms, have been made using Adobe Illustrator CS6.
